Downhill

During the Downhill race, we’ll see the best women skiers in the world race from the top to the bottom of the ski area. In other words, we’ll see them ski from 2415m. asl. to 1615m. asl. at an average slope angle of 37% and a maximum slope angle of 57% at its steepest. The total length of the course is 2316 meters with a vertical drop of 800m from top to bottom. This will definitely be an interesting event to watch and you can expect every one of the top racers to be in Bansko, batteling for points towards the overall rankings. The slopes which will be used are the Bunderitza 1 at the top, through the Todorka run in the middle and finishing off with the Tomba ski run, where the finish line will be. There will be two Downhill races which will take place on the 24th and 25th of January, with the spectator’s tribunes being free for the 24th. The race on the 24th is replacing the canceled women’s downhill event from French resort Val d’Isère last month.

Super Giant Slalom

The Super Giant Slalom (Super GS) course is shorter than the Downhill course by about 620m and will start from 2215m. asl. The total vertical drop is also 200m. less, but the average slope angle is 1° steeper and the steepest part of the slope is still there. The Super GS will take place on the 26th.

Tickets for the event can be bought at the base gondola station in Bansko and will cost 70lv for both days and 40lv for just one. Ever since I started skiing at the age of 6, I knew that the mountains were where I wanted to be as much as possible. I enjoy most mostly big mountain skiing during the winter, but am happy just being out of the city.
