It’s official – the grand opening of the 2015/2016 season will be on the 12th of December. Аs tradition goes, some top names in the world of alpine skiing will be there to celebrate the new season with us.
The big name this year is legendary German alpine skier Marcus Wasmeier. Born in 1963 he won his first world championship at the age of 21 in Borimo, Italy. He has won a total of 9 world cup races and two World Championships, but his greatest achievements are his two gold medals from the 1994 winter Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway. There he took the victory in the Super-G by 0.09 seconds. These medals also won him “Sportsman of the Year” in Germany. The same year he retired from professional alpine skiing at the top of the sport. After retiring from competitive skiing, Wasmeier founded the farm and winter sport museum Bauernhof- und Wintersportmuseum Schliersee, and he has remained its curator and patron ever since.

Keeping Marcus company will be five-time World Cup overall champion and honorary citizen of Bansko – Marc Girardelli. Marc is one of the greatest alpine skiers of all time with 46 individual wins and 101 podium finishes by the age of 33. He is also one of the commercial faces of Bansko and is no stranger to opening the season here. The third guest will be Peter Popangelov, Bulgarian skier #1 of all time.
The resort has also organised a few games for fans with the official guests.
It’s definitely going to be an interesting show, so don’t miss out if you have the chance.
