Bansko Season Opening 2016/17

2

Good news winter fans, the resort management in Bansko has recently announced the starting date for next season, which is the 17th of December, 2016. To commemorate the beginning of the winter season, Bansko has invited ex-World Cup alpine racer, World Champion and Olympic gold medalist, Fritz Strobl to take part in the opening ceremony.

New for 2016/17 in Bansko

During the summer there were a lot of renovations going on, but mostly in the town itself. On the slopes, sufficient steps have been taken to repair and secure the middle part of the ski road. As some of you may remember, there were some rock slides last season which required the right side of the piste to be closed in the affected areas. Even though these areas where small, compared to the whole length of the run, they still formed bottle necks. The resort management has addressed the problem by reinforcing the areas prone to rock slides, so that we don’t have the same problem this year. Other than that, there are no new significant changes to the ski area. For those of you who come by car, the pot holes on the top parking lots have been filled.

The town is looking better than ever with most of the road construction already finished.  The town municipality has finished rebuilding Gotse Delchev street into a pedestrian walk way that runs parallel to Pirin street, so that gives an alternative for the walk to and from your hotel. Who knows, maybe some new shops will open up there as well.

Ever since I started skiing at the age of 6, I knew that the mountains were where I wanted to be as much as possible. I enjoy most mostly big mountain skiing during the winter, but am happy just being out of the city.
