Snow Cinema 2019

If your a fan of skiing, snowboarding and mountaineering movies, then this event is just for you. On the 21st, 22nd and 23rd of February, you’ll be able to watch a great selection of films in the Bansko Tourist Information Center for free. Projections start at 19:00 and the venue is located just next to the main entrance of the Holy Trinity church in the center of town. Continue reading for more information.

The annual Snow Cinema is part of Bansko’s winter culture calendar. This year the program consists of 10 films from Canada, Iceland, Austria, Japan, Italy, Switzerland and Germany. One of the main accents of the program is the film “Russi-Collombin, un duel au sommet”, which documents the lives and rivalry of Swiss skiers Bernhard Russi and Roland Collombin, their battle for Olympic gold at the 1972 Sapporo Winter Olympic Games and beyond.

Thursday, Feb. 21st

19:00ч. – 20:00ч. – „Russi-Collombin, un duel au sommet“, Switzerland.

20:00ч. – 20:26ч. – „A Land Shaped by Women“, France, Austria, Iceland – Anne-Flore Marxer and Aline Bock present their latest film, which tells the tale of their journey across Iceland, where the two Freeride World Champions explore the land in a van and through the adventure sports that they are passionate about, snowboarding and surfing.

20:26ч. – 20:36ч. – break

20:36ч. – 21:30ч. – „Shangku Shelter“, Canada – Ben Stephenson opened the first ski school in the Zanskar region of India to help improve the quality of life for the locals. Skiing has helped them overcome the isolation brought from the 6-month long winter and deep snows of the area.

Friday, Feb. 22nd

19:00ч. – 20:16ч. – „No Man’s Land – Expedition Antarctica“, Austria, 2018 – A group of skiers travel across Antartica with 90kg sleds and snow kites in search for the perfect lines to ski down.

20:16ч. – 20:48ч. – “Ice & Palms“, Germany – Jochen Mesle and Max Kroneck start their biggest and most extraordinary ski tour so far. The mission: Bikepacking across the alps and skiing some iconic mountains along the way – no motor allowed!

21:00ч. – 21:13ч. – “Women’s Skimo Project – opus Japan“, France – Women’s skimo project is a project of several films to inspire, dream, open minds on the practice of women’s sport through ski touring and by meeting these women who dared despite the physical and mental difficulties, their cultures and the preconceived ideas of today’s society, assert themselves, give meaning to their lives by making their passions live. During this Japanese opus we meet five Japanese women skiers: three high mountain guides (Michiko AOKI, Yasuko KIKUCHI, Yuka ABE) a ski cross champion (Noriko FUKUSHIMA) and a competitor in ski mountaineering and trail ( Yukari NISHIDA). These five women tell us about being a woman in Japan and their place in the mountains and on skis.
