Snow Cinema Bansko 2016

From the 25th to the 27th of February, you will be able to check out the Snow Cinema Bansko film festival dedicated to skiing and snowboarding movies. The movies start everyday from 18:00 till around 21:00 at the tourist information center located next to the church. To get there from the gondola, just walk strait down the main shopping street (Pirin str.) You can’t miss it. Its bound to be a good time with plenty of great movies on the program.

25th of February

18:00 – 18:10 – Balloon Skiing

Ever wonder if there is an alternative to heli-skiing? Well, now there is. Watch as a group of friends hitch a ride with a hot air balloon to hit some gnarly big-mountain lines.

18:10 – 19:02 – Onekotan

You see uninhabited islands all the time in documentaries. This group of skiers decided to take exploration of one such island a step further by skiing on it.

19:02-19:50 – Leo Gasper, The elegance of the Turn

A film about the legendary Leo Gasper, the best skier in the world before World War II. This man set the world speed record with skis in 1931 with a speed of 136km/h! And this was more than 50 years before the invention of modern carving skis.

19:50-19:55 – A Simple Machine

Located next to Les Duex Alps in France, La Grave is one of the most iconic freeride destinations on earth. Imagine a ski resort with 1 lift, 0 groomed slopes and the freedom to ski wherever you want.

19:55-21:06 – Spurbar [Die Faszination]

9 totally different skiers show that there is a line for everyone.

26th of February

18:00-18:50 – Across the Ice – The Greenland Victory March

In 2010 two skiers traverse 2300km over Greenland’s ice sheet using their skis and snow kites in an attempt to set a new world record. Even with the elements against them, they continued to push forward, as stopping was not an option.


18:51-18:55 – The Forecaster

Drew Hardesty is one of the most experienced avalanche forecasters in North America. Join him for a day in Utah to understand more about what it means to be a freerider and the responsibility he carries.

18:55-19:10 – Break

19:10-21:00 – Streif – One Hell of a Ride

A movie about one of the most legendary ski races – Hanekam in Austria. One of the most thrilling, scary and demanding races in alpine skiing for over 75 years.

27th of February

18:00-18:26 – Antagonist

One passion, two vision. Follow freeriders Mickael Bimboes and William Cochet as they show two very different sides to freeriding. One of them is contest orientated, while the other just prefers to be at peace with the mountain.

18:26-19:39 – Cancion Perdida en la Nieve

This movie is about a group of people, from all over the world, who put a beginning to Argentinian mountain filming in the early 1950s. Get a taste of what it was like back in the day, before modern technology moved into mountaineering. And long before the first Go Pro was on the market.

19:40 – 19:55 – Break

19:55-20:08 Die letzte Grenze

A group of snowboarders travel across Iceland seeking big lines and adventure galore.

20:08-21:01- Riding 4000

Finishing off the film festival with a bang, this movie will keep you in suspense. The trailer says enough to keep you there until the end.
