First snow report for the season: December 20th, 2021

0

Dear Winter, thank you for being so generous and what a start of the new season it was.

Weather conditions & Snow Cover

Bansko resort is now officially open. Going back through the years we can’t remember having so much snow in December. Having 120+ cm on the slopes and way more at the higher parts of Pirin Mountain, speaks of  the best opening we could have dreamt of.  It started snowing in late November and it just kept going and going. With more snow to come these days and temperatures staying below 0°C, this might be the winter we’ve all been waiting for.

The opening

Winter season 2021/2022 started on December 18th with an official opening ceremony near Tomba slope and was attended by a great number of guests, including  the new Minister of Tourism.

Perfectly groomed slopes welcomed the first skiers and snowboarders on the day before. On Saturday, because of the reduced price of the daily pass and the overall excitement, the resort was quite busy, yet the queue at the bottom of the gondola station stayed only until noon. This was also due to the covid restrictions (check out more info further at the report)*. The day was quite cold and foggy -10°C at Plato and -7 0°C at Shiligarnik but that didn’t stop people from enjoying the mountain. Sunday on the other hand was a perfect bluebird day with few people on the slopes and amazing snow conditions.

Runs & Slopes

At that point all slopes are working, but Chalin Valog and the ski road to Bansko. The good news is that temperatures will stay below 0°C and the snow cannons can work during the night, so it’s a matter of days to have them running too. Even this weekend there were people who skied down from Banderitsa to Bansko and it was quite alright it turned.

COVID regulations

*From day one the COVID regulations were kept very strict. People were entering the gondola in small groups and disinfection was made on a schedule at least three times per day. Protection masks are obligatory for the gondola and the departure areas around the lifts. Certificate is needed for all restaurants and bars. You can also check out our tips on PCR travel testing.
