First snow report for the New Year: January 2nd, 2022

0

Happy New Year, folks and cheers for a better year ahead! Hope 2022 brings us new adventures and a great winter season!

Weather conditions & Forecast & Snow Cover

This week was a bit interesting if we speak about the weather. On Monday we had quite strong wind at the top – Plato and Bundetitsa 2, with temperatures below 0° C. The days after the wind died down, but the temperatures increased and unfortunately below Shiligarnika they stayed positive. This caused on 29th and 30th of December rain to fall instead of snow at most slopes beneath 1600m, but snow at highest parts as Plato. It was foggy during some of the days, with hours of clear visibility.

Friday and Sunday we had bluebird days. The forecast for the next week doesn’t snow new snowfalls, but clean weather and temperatures around 0° C.

ski, snow, BanskoRuns & Slopes

Slopes are perfectly groomed early in the morning, but after 12pm most of them are already bumpy. If you want to enjoy the riding we recommend you to go as early as you can. Till 10am it seems that slopes are not so busy. From this week on we have the piste of Chalin Valog also opened, so if you want to ski at a bit quiet place, you can definitely find it there.

At the top we have great snow conditions, and some powder days recently. At Plato you can also enjoy only real snow, as there are no snow canoes. Unfortunately because of the rain on the lowest parts of the resort, as Chalin Valg and some segments from the ski road you can already see the snow cover disappearing.

Be careful!

The resort is becoming busier around New Years Eve and holidays. Be careful while on the slopes and always remember to ski by the rules. Safety first as they say. Here are some basic tips that can protect you and the others around you.

  1. Always wear a helmet and by your own preference additional protection
  2. Ski and snowboard with safety speed, regarding your personal abilities
  3. Avoid stopping on the piste in narrow places or where visibility is restricted. If needed, stop on side and always look up when you are about to enter the slope again.
  4. When coming from behind it is your responsibility to choose a route in such a way that you are not endangering a skiers or snowboarders ahead
  5. In case of an accident, first make sure you are on a safety spot, then help.

Queue & Tips

The whole week was quite busy. Big condola queue every morning and packed slopes. Luckily not so much waiting at the chairlifts. If you want to avoid waiting you have to be at the gondola bottom station very early in the morning. The gondola starts operating at 8:30, so make sure you are there around 8:15 and have your ski pass in advance
