Snow Check 8th of February 2016

0

It’s the 8th of February 2016 here in Bansko and the snow conditions are great! There is plenty of snow on the slopes, but the off-piste can be filled with hidden rocks and other hazards. The temperature is also relatively low, so the snow cover on the slopes is nice and hard. Early morning is the best, as the slopes are in perfect condition and there is very few people on the ski runs themselves. But the afternoon also has it’s perks! The snow park is better once the snow is softer, the runs aren’t too bad. And best of all, after 11:30-12:00 there is almost no lift line.

As it is high season at the moment, the lift line can get a little big at peak times. This photo is from 9 o’clock in the morning. Even though it looks quite substantial, you will still make it up. We at Ski & Board Traventuria also provide a shuttle service to the top station. Come by our shop to check for availability.

The lift line was pretty big at around 9 in the morning.

But don’t despair, this is only for a few hours and at noon the whole line was gone. That means that if you go at 12:00 you will be up there at around 12:30-1 and can ski 4 hours, before taking the ski road down. This is perfect for those of you who like to sleep in while on vacation and don’t feel the urge to ski more than 4-5 hours.

No one waiting outside the lift station at noon.

Today was a nice and sunny day and everyone who made it up got to enjoy an amazing day with great views. The temperature was around freezing level during most of the day, which is perfect for skiing or relaxing at a restaurant, drinking a pint.  The Chalin Valog runs are perfect now for experienced skiers as they have good snow cover and very few people ski that zone. This also means 0 lift lines. But keep in mind that those runs are for more experienced riders. The Plato runs were also great today, as well as the N.5 and N.10 runs, which have plenty of small little jumps on the sides that you can get creative with.

Everyone who got to the top was greeted with a great view.

The fun park is also up and running and today was a great day to have a go. There are two jumps, a bigger and smaller one. If it’s your first time hitting jumps like these, start off with the second one. A word of advice to all first timers in the park. When hitting a jump, try to have enough speed to reach the landing. Even if you fall it’s still better than crashing on the flat part of the jump before the knuckle. And always wear a helmet. Another thing you could try is to start of on the Big Air Bag that you can find on Bunderishka Poliana. But don’t be fooled, it is safe, but not completely. You should also try it without your poles, as they tend to get bent a lot.
