Snow Report: January, 22nd 2021

TGIF or another great moment to come on the slopes. The ski conditions are perfect for another week! It’s time for me to present you with another snow report from the slopes and immerse you in the spirit of Bansko. After a really cold week without any snowfall, we had amazing conditions on the top of the mountain! Yesterday, on Thursday, the 21st of January, the ski road was also open officially, although many skiers and snowboards have skied down to the town even last week. On the top of the mountain, we have 100 cm of snow coverage, at the top gondola, there is 50 cm, but in the town, there is no snow.

Slope No 5 – Shiligarnik

The avalanche warning is still in force. Skiing outside the marked ski areas is dangerous and forbidden!

I took this photo from the meeting point for the ski and snowboard lessons. Usually, there are so many people you can hardly find your instructor.

Slopes and lifts

Most of the days during this week, there were strong winds on the top in the afternoon. Therefore slopes 3 and 11 (Plato 1 and 2) and slope 6 (Todorka) were closing around 1 p.m. The conditions today were better so all slopes above the top gondola station were working normally. Today only ski slope 9 – the black Tomba was closed. I should say that the ski patrol and the maintenance team have done a really good job this week. All of the opened ski slopes are very well-groomed. Even on Sunday when the temperatures on top varied from -19°C to -22°C it was not icy.

This week was also quite quiet because of COVID-19. Weekends are a bit busier as there are many Bulgarians who arrive from other towns to ski the weekend away. Even though, the maximum waiting time at the gondola around 8:30 in the morning is not more than 10 minutes. Don’t worry if you see a queue outside the gondola- it’s because only groups of around 10 people can go at the same time inside.

Ski Road

Ski Road One is now operating. The snow conditions are good, but be careful- as close as you go to the town, you may see people who are taking a walk or are outside with their dogs. There are parents and kids with sleds. The snow cannons have done enough snow to cover the trace good, there are no stones or black spots.

Everyone is enjoying the conditions on the ski road!

COVID safety measures

The COVID safety measures are on spot. We as expecting restaurants and bars to reopen from the 1st of February.

On Monday this week, a new PCR-test laboratory has started working in the center of Bansko. It’s easily accessible and it’s not needed to travel to Razlog anymore to do a PCR test. Results are given in English. You can take a test every day between 8 a.m and 1 p.m. and the results are ready on the next day.
