Almost a month after the start of the new 2023/2024 winter season, Bansko ski resort offers great snow conditions and we are more than happy to share our latest snow report with you.
Slope conditions are very good at the moment. However, not all of the pistes are currently open. Read on to find out which slopes and lifts are working, which are expected to open soon and what are the current conditions of the snow in Bulgaria’s most popular winter ski resort – Bansko.
Slopes and Snow
With no wind and lots of sunny hours, the mountain offers some great scenery for all skiers and snowboarders. Despite the sun, weather has been really cold, with temperatures below zero throughout most of the day, hence allowing the snow cannons to produce more and more snow. Current snow cover is 50 cm of snow at 1620 m and 135 cm of snow at 2550 m above sea level.
Morning rides (and up until noon time) enjoy harder and stiffer snow conditions with the snow getting quite softer in the afternoons.
The currently open slopes are: Bansko, Kolarski, Banderitsa, Plato1 and 2, Todorka, Stara Pista, Ulen, Shiligarnik 2;
Balkaniada, Shiligarnik 1, Strazhite, Chalin Valog 1 and 2, and Tomba are currently not open while undergoing preparations for the Audi FIS Ski World Cup Bansko 2024 (10th of Feb – GS, 11th of Feb – SL).
Plato is quite busy and from the Gondola middle station (1470m, Chalin Valog area) going down, pretty much nothing is working and cannons are blasting constantly to produce enough snow for the area. Resort management and technical support’s top priority at the moment is the opening of the ski road and are doing their best to prepare it. It is almost ready and rumours have it that it might be officially open tomorrow (13.01).
Slope number 5 is not ready yet, having some dark spot areas and few stones showing.
Slope “The Wall” (mostly known among locals), which leads to Kolarski slope is also currently not working.
Slopes and Snow Summary
Good news is that there are no icy parts on the slopes. It’s sunny with no wind with great skiing/snowboarding conditions up until noon time. Of course, due to the sunlight, snow gets softer in the afternoons.
Lifts and Queues
The resort is not busy at the moment and there are no queues for any of the lifts, including the Gondola. The morning line wait is up to 20 min.
The open lifts are: Gondola Cabin lift, Mosta, Kolarski, Banderitsa 1 and 2, Shiligarnik, Todorka, Plato, Stara Kotva, Detska Kotva, Panitsa B;
With no natural snowfall over the past couple of days, most of the snow is made by the cannons, which are constantly working every day and night.
Weather is sunny, but cold. New snowfall (3.7cm) is expected for Tuesday the 16th after 8 am. Temperatures will be below freezing (max -3°C on Sun (14.01) morning, min -10°C on Fri (12.01) night). Wind will be generally light.
