I am back with a snow report from today, summing up this week. Overall, the last seven days were good in the resort as there was some snowfall. The conditions for skiing however were not at its best. It was very foggy most of the time. Good news is that the natural snow on the top of the mountain reaches 108 centimeters. It’s a matter of time for the winds to stop and more slopes to open.
Snow conditions
The situation remains unchanged with last week: the earlier you wake up, the better you will ski. Unfortunately, so far only three slopes are working. The resort is getting busier with each day. Therefore, altough the conditions in the morning are good and the slopes are well groomed, after two hours from the start of the first chairlift, the slope is plowed.
Waiting time
I already mentioned the increasing number of skiers and snowboarders in the ski zone. We had also the FIS Snowboard World Cup this week. This morning, around 9 AM there was a very long queue at the gondola. Waiting time was at least 30 minutes. The chairlifts on the top were also busy- 20 minutes waiting on each. For two hours on the top, I managed to ski one time on Kolarski slope (number one) and two times on Shiligarnik 1 slope (number five). Here is the moment to mention that Number five is not officially open, but there are many skiing there. The slope has vegetation and bumps along the way. There was also waiting time at the gondola back to town.
Snowboard World Cup
The snowboard world cup is over. It was great watching world-level sportsmen in Bansko. Our bulgarian boy Radoslav Yankov finished fourth today. There were many visitors, it was a great feeling! I am looking forward to many new competitions.
CAUTION: Avalanche danger!
Due to the snowfall this week, the terrain up at the highest parts of the mountain is unstable. Kindly note, that skiing out of the marked areas is very dangerous.
