Snow Report: April 4th, 2022

0

If March was generous, April starts even better. So sad that the season is coming to its end.

Weather & Forecast

April delivered spring weather, but also snow at the end of the week.
From Monday to Wednesday the weather was warm, with temperatures around 7-10 °C. Sunny and a bit windy. Then on Thursday the mountain closed with clouds and it started raining. It was quite windy, with temperatures above 0°C even at the top, where the snow that felt was wet. On Plato, the highest part of the resort – 2250m the temperature was 2°C.

Sunday was a powder day

As the weekend approached the temperatures started to decrease and on Saturday and especially on Sunday they were already below freezing level. This causes the rain to turn into snow. The weather was quite unstable – it started as a storm with thunders and strong winds, but eventually graduated into moderate snowfall. Sunday morning we woke up with 10-20 cm of new fresh snow at the upper part of the resort.

 Forecast

The forecast for the last week of the season is predicting a slow increase of the temperatures and snow falls turning into rain in the middle of the week. Still above 2100m we expect wet snow. Light winds and sunny weather for Friday to Saturday.

We were enjoying the snowflakes on Saturday afternoon

Snow Cover & Slope Conditions

Snow cover is still very good. With the new 10-20 cm on Sunday we even had a proper powder day to enjoy. Unfortunately the rain that fell during the week significantly melted the snow blanket on the slopes. Now at the top we have snow depth around 180 cm.

The winds that came with the stormy weather on Thursday and Fridays brought sand with them. Even if it wasn’t so much it appeared to make the snow quality different. Now we had the new snow above the sandy one and this definitely will affect the last days of skiing.

Altogether now in Bansko the snow conditions are great and closing the resort at the end of the upcoming week seems quite unfair.

Due to the strong winds Banderitsa 2 chairlift was closed on Sunday

All slopes are open and in very good snow conditions. Ski roads 1 and 2 are also covered with snow and skiers and snowboarders can enjoy riding to bottom gondola station. Only on the days with strong winds the chairlifts at the upper part of the resort weren’t working.

Slopes are also quite empty and it is obvious the season is coming to its end. During the weekdays it is now normal to ski on empty slopes.

Even during the weekends the slopes are not busy anymore
