Welcome back for the 2017/18 winter season in Bansko. This is the first of our weekly snow reports for the season and we’ll keep you updated with the conditions in Bansko until the lifts close in April. The slopes have been working for the last 3 days now, with the official season opening being tomorrow on the 16th of December. So far only a few lifts are running, with the Plato set to open soon.
Currently, only the gondola, Kolarski, Kotva and Panica B lifts are working, as well as the beginners track on Bunderishka Poliana. Plans were for the Plato ski runs to open today, but heavy winds prevented the lifts up top from operating. As can be expected at this time of the year, lift lines were non-existent and there were even a few groups of ski school out on the slopes.
Snow conditions have been better previous years but were still good considering the high temperatures as of late. The forecast is for some snow over the weekend and lower temperatures starting next week. Pistes were in decent shape, with the blue Kolarski, blue Kotvata and red Starata Kotva being the only runs open, apart from the beginners’ area at the top gondola station. During the morning children racers had a chance to put up a track and train on the Kotvata ski run.
Tomorrow is the official season opening, with lots of games, musical guest and prizes. You can read more about that HERE.
