This is probably the best season for many years now. Great snow conditions, great weather, and a great place to spend your winter vacation. We hardly remember having such great conditions up the mountain. And this week wasn’t exception.
Weather conditions & Forecast
The week started with cold weather, but this was just perfect for the snowfall the next two days. As the forecast predicted – heavy snow fall on Tuesday morning. Late afternoon the same day the sky cleared up and we had one more amazing powder day. The rest of the week was gorgeous – blue sky, temperatures around 0°C and great snow conditions. Friday and Saturday were a bit warmer with temperatures reaching 8 °C at Shiligarnika in the daytime.
Sunday morning was foggy at Bunderishka polyana and partly at Shiligarnika, but once you climbed above the clouds you could enjoy the magnificent view of the mountain.
The forecast for next week shows light snow on Monday and after this the weather will slightly warm up. We expect temperatures to stay below 0°C till Friday and go up to 5°C for the weekend days. Altogether another great sunny week ahead.
Snow Cover & Slope Conditions
Luckily we have some snow fall every week now. The snow blanket is great for this time of the year and we are definitely enjoying seeing the mountain so snowy. At the top (2550m) the snow cover is 180cm and at Banderishka Polyana (1620m) – 100cm.
With the new snow on Tuesday the slopes couldn’t be better. There was fresh snow on all runs – a condition for a great skiing and snowboarding week. Mornings were just perfect for practicing carving technique, and afternoons were for a drink on the sunny decks of the apre ski bars.
The Funpark is open!
Another great news from last week is that the snow park is working again. It is open and shaped really good. It features a small snowboard cross terrain, two table top jumps, a quite good amount of rails and boxes. One table box and one C-box. It is situated on the side of run number 11 at Plato. If you’re going to visit the park and have no experience in snow parks, a good idea is to use protection pads and of course a helmet and to start with the easiest features as the boxes.
Our weekly advice
Surprisingly, the resort last week during the weekdays was not so busy. The waiting queue for the gondola was approximately an hour and there was no waiting for the chair lifts up the mountain. The weekend was just the opposite – huge gondola queues and busy slopes.
So if it is possible, plan your vacation, excluding the weekends or take them as rest days from skiing and enjoy some of the activities the region is offering. You can read more about what you can do in Bansko, if not skiing here.
