Here is the weekly snow report from Bansko, just a week before the start of the men’s world cup! The weather today is perfect for skiing: the sky is clear, the sun shines and warms up, and there are lots of snow up in the mountain!

Weather conditions

The start of the week surprised us with very chilly weather. The temperatures on top reached again -22° C. Hair, lashes, and beards- everything was frozen on Sunday and Monday. Slowly, the sun made its way and brought us perfect weather. Due to the temperature amplitudes during the day and overnight, some sections appeared to be very icy. However, there was some snowfall overnight.  The snows cover on top is 200 centimeters already. At Banderishka meadow there are 140 centimeters.

Weekend skiing

This season Bansko looks like a resort for weekend tourism. You can hardly find a parking place near the gondola station. The number of people hitting the slopes on weekends increases in times compared to during the week. Waiting time at the lifts is not more than 5 minutes and 15 minutes at the gondola at the start of the day. However, the ski zone looks much busier due to the preparations for the World Cup. Even so, the ski zone is far less busy than what we are used to seeing in February.

World Cup 27th-28th of February

Some of the best and most famous skiers will arrive in Bulgaria within few days. Tomba and Todorka Slopes are closed. Forerunners are flooding and leveling the track so it can be perfect and fast when skiers come. Unfortunately, visitors are not allowed to watch the races, but you can still stop while skiing around and learn from the best. More details about the competition in our next snow report!

Runs and slopes

All runs are operating except the ones closed for the world cup. The tow lift at Chalin Valog is a hidden gem for beginners- it’s usually empty and the conditions are really good. It’s even more inspirational to look at the experienced skiers skiing down the working sleeve of Chalin Valog Run. It’s a very difficult one but the pleasure after being there is huge. The runs are very well maintained, there are no bumps.

Snow Cover & Forecast

Next week the temperatures will slowly increase and snow is not expected. March is always the most surprising month- once it’s an absolute spring, sometimes we reach the lowest temperatures for the year. Bulgarians say that March is a typical women’s month: surprising such as women’s mood. Strong winds are not on the forecast and hopefully, they don’t surprise us! If strong winds hit, the top will be closed and a very little amount of slopes will remain open for the snow lovers.

The end of the Ski Run is available for all beginners

Avalanche warnings

Here is another reminder: please, don’t go off-piste! As stated on the official site of the resort, going off-piste is forbidden!
