Snow Report: February 21st, 2022

Stunning week here in Bansko. We enjoyed one more week with excellent snow conditions and amazing weather. It felt like spring had come earlier, but this will change, as we expect temperatures to drop down the days ahead.

Weather conditions & Forecast

Spring temperatures in February. This was the weather here in Bansko recently. Monday as the snow forecast predicted we enjoyed the light snowfall. It doesn’t snow so much to make a difference into the snow cover, but to make the day look like a fairytale.

Monday was a winter fairytale – restaurant the GOAT

Temperatures through the whole week kept above 0°C and the days were mostly sunny. From Thursday night it started to become windy and Friday the upper part of the resort was closed, due to the strong wind. Saturday was also windy, but significantly less than the day before. Altogether it was a great sunny week here in Bansko.

The forecast is quite promising! Temperature will drop down and at 2600m we expect it to be around – 8 °C / -10 °C  with the coldest day on Thursday. Next snowfall will be on 22nd of February and with this kind of cold weather it looks like we will have a great chance to have some proper powder shred on Wednesday. So wax your skis and boards, winter is coming back!

Snow Cover & Slope Conditions

The snow blanket hasn’t changed from last week and we still have at the top (2550m) snow cover of 180cm and at Banderishka Polyana (1620m) – 100cm.

Great snow conditions in the mornings and perfectly groomed slopes

The snow conditions now are great – snow is not too hard and not too slashy. Mornings as usual slopes are groomed perfectly and around noon time they become a bit bumpy, but really playingful and nice to ride. Because of the warm weather the snow was a bit slower and sticky in the afternoons, especially at the ski road. A good advice is to wax your skis and board. You can check our service here.

Run number 5 was quite busy this weekend

The resort is already busy due to the mid term vacation and the slopes were packed, especially on Friday, when the upper part of the resort – Plato and Banderitsa 2 weren’t working, due to the strong wind. On days like this a good idea is to ski down at Chalin Valog, where it is usually quiet and you can enjoy your ski day, without waiting at the chairlift queue. And as we speak about waiting, this week and especially during the weekend at the gondola bottom station it was more than 1,5 hour of waiting to go up and the queue was reaching the end of the parking slots. For the rest of the chairlifts the waiting was between 5-10 minutes.

Great sunny day and even the waiting is pleasant
