Snow Report: February 27th, 2022

0

Here is our snow report for the last week of February. Without noticing the season is half away, but there is still so much snow into the mountain and more is expected to fall this Sunday and the week ahead.

Weather & Forecast

Winter came back! After a week of spring temperatures, the weather came back to normal. Temperatures started to drop down on Sunday night and on Tuesday overnight we had new snowfall. Unfortunately below 2100m the fresh snow was quite wet, but at the top – 2600m we enjoyed 20+ cm of proper powder. Thursday was quite cold – the thermometer showed – 7/ -8°C, but it was also sunny. Friday and Saturday the weather stayed cold and sunny and it really felt that winter is coming back. And it did! This Sunday 27th of February we had a heavy snowfall, that continued the hole day and it still goes while I’m writing this report =)

After the first snowfall on Monday night the trees were covered with fresh snow and it felt like winter is back

Forecast

The snow forecast for Bansko shows heavy snowfall till Wednesday, heaviest dumping will be this Sunday 27th of February. Temperatures will be well below 0°C with max -7°C and min -12°C on Tuesday night. Wind will be generally light. All of this speaks for a great powder week ahead.

The snow forecast for the week ahead

Snow Cover & Slope Conditions

The snow blanket remains the same – at 2550m snow cover is 180cm and at Banderishka Polyana (1620m) – 100cm, which is great for this time of the season and after the warming up from the previous week.  Today snow was a bless, that changed the mountain totally. The hole day it was snowing and it continues. There is quite a lot of snow up the mountain and we expect more in March.

Slope Conditions

With the new snow in the beginning of the week, we are having excellent conditions for skiing and snowboarding right now. In the mornings you can enjoy a long ride from top to bottom with amazing pistes, perfectly groomed and ready for the day. After noon, as now there are a lot of people in the resort, the slopes have some moguls, but still nice for riding and if you look at it from the bright side  – perfect for practicing your technique.

Run number 10 with amazing snow conditions

As the temperatures dropped down, this also has its effect on the snow conditions. Now in the afternoons it’s not becoming slashy as the week before, but stays hard. On some parts of the slopes, this was tricky as from fresh new snow, you suddenly hop on a hard packed snow, so be careful. Sharp edges are needed.

We enjoyed couple of bluebird days this week

Currently opened slopes

All slopes are open, also the two ski roads, and if you want to skip the crowded ski road number 1, we recommend you to take the other one down. It goes from Mosta chairlift to Chalin valog and from there you have two options – to go down on the black run number 16, or on the red number 15, or to take the gondola down from the middle station. If you are not feeling ready for a red run, but still don’t want to risk going on the packed ski road number 1, the second option is for you. And believe us, you won’t regret it, as ski road number 2 is quite picturesque as well.

Our weekly advice

As you already know from our previous report, the resort is quite busy now. When hitting the slopes, remember the safety rules. Try to ski with a distance and always remember – it is your responsibility to take care of the person skiing or snowboarding in front of you.

On the ski road after 15:00 go with a lot of attention. A lot of people are trying to go back to the city at this time and it becomes crowded. The road is narrow and it can’t handle so many people at the same time. Unfortunately there are no safety nets everywhere, so it is a bit hazardous when going on the side of the river. Just be careful and don’t speed, as you may hurt yourself and also somebody else.

COVID regulations

New regulations for restaurants, bars and big shops were voted on in Bulgaria. From now on,no green certificate is required upon entry. Covid regulations in the resort remain the same. Wearing masks is obligatory in the gondola and gondola building, also in shops, supermarkets etc.
