This weekend Bansko is hosting the Snowboarding World Cup. There will be races on the 3rd, 4th and 5th, you can see the program below. If you’re in the resort you should definitely check it out. Conditions are warming up, but the slopes are still in good condition throughout the day.
The Program for the Snowboard World Cup is as follows:
February 3rd:
09:30-11:30 – Parallel Slalom (PSL) Qualifications (Men & Woman)
13:30-14:45 – PSL Finals
18:30-19:30 – Official opening and award ceremony. Bansko Central Square
February 4th
11:30-12:45 – Snowboardcross finals and award ceremony
13:00-14:30 – Red Bull DJ Party
February 5th
10:30-12:30 Parallel Giant Slalom (PGS) Qualifications (Men & Woman)
12:00-14:30 DJ Party
14:30-15:45 PGS finals and award ceremony
The races can be viewed from the Bunderishka Poliana area, where the resort has set up plenty of places to sit. There is no entrance fee, but we suggest you go 10-15 minutes before the race starts if you want to grab a seat. There are plenty of other activities you can participate in as well. Come and see.
Due to the races, the lower part of the Tomba slope is closed. The beginner slope between the Kolarski and Buderitza ski lifts is also closed. It has been turned into a small race course that any snowboarder can have a go at. The fastest even win prizes. Today the beginner slope and Panitza B surface lifts on buderishka Poliana were also working. On the top of the mountain, the N.2 Ski run is also closed.
In good condition today was Chalin Valog, however it was slightly slushy by the late afternoon. The less known second ski road is also open. This connects the bottom of The Bridge lift and the top of the Chalin Valog ski area. The advatage to the normal ski road is that it’s less crowded, but there are a few flat parts. If your snowboard or skis aren’t properly waxed, you’ll probably end up pushing a little.
Piste conditions on the rest of the mountain are softer than earlier in the season. Temperatures are around the freezing level, but winds higher in the mountain make it fell much colder. On Bunderishka Poliana and Shiligarnika the conditions were perfect to sit and have a beer. No wind there meant it felt much warmer. Lift lines on the mountain are small, but down at the gondola the wait can be 30-40 minutes.
We will have a full report from the Snowboard World Cup here in Bansko after the event.
