Perfect conditions here in Bansko the last few days and more to come! Since last week’s report, we got over 30cm of fresh snow Saturday through Tuesday and bluebird skies since Wednesday. The forecast is for more sunny, but still cold, days. This weekend is the Snowboard World Cup in the slalom and boardercross disciplines, and there will be races held every day on Bunderishka Poliana. If you’re coming out here this weekend, you’ve got great timing!
All lifts in the resort are working with small lift lines. Only at the gondola is there a queue that goes for 30 minutes to an hour, it passes much quicker than you would think when you first see the line. The lines today for the Plato lift were 5-10 minutes, the same as for the Kolarski lift. Winds have been calm the last few days, with speeds less than 20km/h in most of the ski area. Make sure to wear sunscreen when it’s this sunny on the slopes. The snow acts as a mirror and you can easily get a goggle tan!
Slope conditions are very good! Thanks to the fresh snow we got earlier this week, the grooming team has been able to do a fine job. Most of the slopes have a nice corduroy finish in the morning and stay hard and flat throughout the day. We didn’t see any rocks on the slopes today either. The Balkaniada ski run has also opened and is in good condition. The Tomba and N.7 Old Run ski slopes are closed at least until Monday when the World Cup finishes. Other than that, only the N.16 and steep part of the N.15 slopes in Chalin Valog are still closed. For these conditions, we recommend taking a pair of races skis.
We are just getting enough snow to go out into the backcountry to ski powder. Snow cover is lacking in the lower woods, but in the open faces higher in the mountain, it’s a whole different story. If you want to find some good powder skiing at the moment, we suggest getting a guide to take you deeper into the mountain. If you don’t have the proper gear or training, we don’t suggest you head off into the woods or climb the peak above the ski zone. The snow park is closed at the moment as it needs to be reshaped after last weeks snow.
