Snow Report: March 13th, 2022

It was another great week here in Bansko with a lot of new snow and sun. All slopes are opened and with very good snow conditions. It seems there will be enough snow till the end of the season, which is still said to be 10th April

Run number 4 Balkaniada. The snow cover and conditions looks more like it is February.

Weather & Forecast

As the weekend approached, the weather opened up and we had three great sunny days with sub-zero temperatures. It was -19 ° C at the top this Saturday. The whole week before, the mountain had been closed by clouds. The part of the resort over 2100 m was mostly foggy, but this was combined with some good snowfall. There was light snow every day from Monday to Thursday. This brought enough fresh snow, which will prolong the good snow cover that already exists in the resort. These temperatures are not common by this time of the year, it felt like mid February.

Forecast is promising. We expect more snow. A moderate fall on Thursday and heaviest snowfall on Friday afternoon. Luckily the wind will be generally light. Temperatures will stay below freezing with maximum 0°C on Wednesday and then will drop down again to -10°C on Monday morning and even -16°C for Saturday night.

At Plato the snow cover is more than 2 meters

Snow Cover & Slope Conditions

The snow blanket at Plato (2550m) got up to 250cm and at Banderishka polyana – 150cm. This is really a good snow cover for mid March. The whole area around the resort is looking gorgeous.

Riding this week was great fun with new 10 cm every morning and fresh powder on-piste and on side of them – such a playful experience. The only thing that made it a bit tricky was the fog that made the visibility very poor. But on Friday the sky cleared and three amazing bluebird days followed. Because of the low temperatures perfectly groomed slopes lasted till late afternoon.

Being first on run number 6 Todorka

During the week days and even during the weekends there are not so many people anymore. March looks like it will be a great month for skiing and snowboarding. A lot of snow and temperatures below 0°C with more snow falling ahead and less people.

The week ahead will be quite interesting. We expect two big competitions to be held in Bansko resort. First of them will be on March 17th to March 18th, when a National Contest will take place at the Snow Park of Bansko. There will be two disciplines  – Slopestyle Snowboard and Big Air Snowboard. Right after that on March 18th to March 20th 2022, some of the best freeride skiers and snowboarders will ride under Todorka Peak. Bansko will welcome a 3 * Freeride World Qualifier, which is a qualifying round of the world series of the Freeride World Tour.

The bulley tracks are preparing the Snow Park for the upcoming competition
