Snow Report: March 28th, 2022

March was a month of diverse. We had a lot of fresh snow at the beginning of the month, then we had great competitions to watch and here it comes the spring at the end of it.

Bluebird days are here

Weather & Forecast

Spring has come this week. The whole week was mostly sunny except Tuesday afternoon. The temperatures were decreasing slowly from minus to positive during the weekend. The week started with a bit of a chilly weather with -9°C on Monday. During the day it was sunny, but cold. Tuesday was sunny in the morning, but then it became cloudy and windy in the afternoon and we even had some light rain. Wednesday to Saturday was mostly sunny, temperatures were above 0°C at 2100m.

Next week we expect good weather at the beginning – sunny and dry. Then on Wednesday with some moderate wind, temperatures will decrease. On Friday and Saturday we expect rain and even snow above 2100m. Above 2100m temperatures will stay below 0°C, but for the lower part of the resort we expect them to be around 0°C and even positive.

Snow Cover & Slope Conditions

Even with the positive temperatures and the sun this week, the snow blanket and the slopes are in great condition. All slopes are still open and with no . The snow blanket at Plato (2550m) now is around 2m and at Banderishka polyana – 1,5 m. There is still snow to Bansko and both ski roads are open. There are still no segments where you can see the snow cover disappearing.

Run number 5 on Monday. Now you can enjoy being almost the only one on the slope

Pistes are maintained well. It is this time of the season now, that we call ”spring ridings”. That means that early in the morning slopes are quite hard and after 12:00 pm they become slashy.

So called “spring ridings” are great fun, but one should be prepared for the snow conditions.

Early in the morning the snow is really hard packed and even icy so if you are about to go for a morning ride, sharpen the edges of your skis or snowboard. With the day passing and the temperatures increasing the snow slowly starts to soften and around noon time 12:00 pm it is already becoming soft and even slashy, a couple of hours later. For this kind of snow you will need wider skis. For snowboarding this is the fun, jibbing time of the season, when snow is forgiving and you can try all the tricks you had in your mind. Good idea is to wax your “winter weapon” before riding it, because spring snow is also a bit slower. Check out our shop service

Our weekly advice

There are only two weeks left till the official end of the season and the resort is really not busy right now. Some of the restaurants up the mountain are even closing. If you decide to come for the weekend though, Saturday and Sunday, then it is still busier but altogether really enjoyable. During the weekdays the slopes are quite empty and sometimes you can be the only one on the slope.
