Is Eating on the Slopes in Bansko Expensive?
Updated 2025 Guide
One of the most frequent questions our clients ask us at Traventuria is where to eat in Bansko and whether on-slope dining will break the bank.
Bulgaria is widely advertised as a budget-friendly winter destination, but that isn’t always the full story. Many first-time visitors are caught off guard by the price gap between the mountain and the town below. While eating in town remains reasonably priced, dining on the slopes is a different story.
Here is what you need to know about food and drink prices on the Bansko slopes for the 2025 ski season, along with a few tips to save your money and protect your gear.
Drinks and Snacks: Small Purchases Add Up Fast
The most expensive dining in Bansko is right on the pistes. Most major establishments at main hubs like Bunderishka Polyana and Shiligarnika are managed by the resort, making pricing uniform across the mountain.
If you compare mountain prices to a restaurant in London or main European hubs, they might not seem outrageous. However, compared to Bansko town, the markup is significant:
-
Hot Chocolate: A instant-pack hot chocolate on the slopes costs around €4.00 – €4.50, compared to less than €0.50 in a town supermarket.
-
Coffee: A simple espresso on the piste runs about €2.00 – €2.50, while it costs barely €0.50–€1.00 down in town.
-
Small Beer (Local): Expect to pay €3.50 – €4.50 on the mountain.
-
Bottled Water (0.5L) & Chocolates (Snickers/Twix): Priced around €2.00 – €2.50 each.
Pro-Tip: Carrying a light backpack with two bottles of water and a couple of snack bars bought from a town supermarket will easily save a couple or family €10 to €15 a day.
On-Slope Meals: What Lunch Will Cost You in 2025
When lunchtime rolls around, prices climb even higher:
-
French Fries: €5.00 – €6.00
-
Soups (Chicken/Beef): ~€5.00 – €7.00 (Vegetarian options are slightly less)
-
Pasta / Spaghetti: ~€11.00 – €13.00
-
Main Meat Dishes / Grilled Items: Expect to start at ~€14.00 – €18.00+ for standard portions.
Private stalls or smaller stands don’t offer much relief—a single chicken skewer or small portion of grilled meat at a stand can easily cost €7.50 – €9.00.
A standard lunch at Bunderishka Polyana consisting of a soup, a main dish, a side of bread, a salad, and a beer will cost roughly €23 – €28 per person. In town, that exact same meal costs less than half.
⚠️ Important: Keep an Eye on Your Gear During Lunch Breaks!
Whenever you stop at popular hubs like Bunderishka Polyana or Shiligarnika for lunch, always keep a close watch on your equipment.
During peak season, these mountain restaurants get extremely crowded. Because rental shops across Bansko use identical or similar models from major brands (Head, Atomic, Fischer), thousands of skis and snowboards parked outside look identical.
Mix-ups—both accidental and intentional—happen frequently when the resort is full. Someone wearing the same boot size can easily step into your skis by mistake and head down the mountain.
How to protect your gear:
-
Separate your skis: Swap one of your skis with a friend’s ski and rack them in two different places a few meters apart. Nobody looking for a quick swap or accidentally grabbing a pair will take two mismatched skis.
-
Memorize your code/barcode: Take a quick photo of the serial number or shop barcode on your equipment so you can verify it immediately if someone moves it.
Smarter Dining Alternatives
If you don’t want to pay top-tier prices every day, you have a few great options:
-
Eat along the Ski Road: As you ski down toward town, the places situated along the lower Ski Road offer noticeably better prices for drinks, soups, and grilled snacks than the top station hubs.
-
Ski down to Town for Lunch: If you are an intermediate skier, taking a run down to the resort base for a midday meal gives you access to town taverns (mehanas) with authentic meals at standard local prices.
